The Gala Band is the brainchild of Bristol-based alt-folk-pop songwriting partnership Hannah Partington and Ben Baldwin. In Spring 2006 the partnership grew to a band when they added John Fisher (drums) and Dave Colebrook (bass).
Following the band’s debut E.P. release, Little Revelations, in September, 2007 they have had a busy summer with their first UK tour, and a string of high profile festivals before returning to the studio in October this year. They have now begun work on their debut album, which is being produced by PJ Harvey collaborator and producer John Parish at Toy Box studio in Bristol, UK. We hope to bring you a preview of the album in the very near future.
Press for The Gala Band
- BBC 6 Music — Tom Robinson
- A genius track, they're clearly a band destined to go far I think
- The Big Issue Magazine
- An acoustic treat from The Gala Band. Hannah’s crystal clear vocals and the electronic trickery really lifted their acoustic set into something quite magical, recording live loops to create a one-woman choir.
- Venue Magazine (★★★★✩)
- Little Revelations is an audacious little debut from an audacious little frontwoman. An intoxicating blend of confessional folk and intimate story telling. The unexpectedly inventive Gala Band, their lovely, Lilliputian frontwoman outclassing everything else by a country mile: keyboardy, ambitious composition and hair-standing vocal control, mining similar seams to thinking man’s crumpet Regina Spektor or Cat Power.
- Scratch the Surface
- Beautifully accomplished songwriting — musically imaginative and unexpected whilst being gorgeously melodic at the same time.
