The Bird and the Word and the reviews

Several websites have been kind enough to write about Robin Allender’s debut album The Bird and the Word:

If you know of any more mentions of Robin in the press then please do let us know.

The upshot of all this embarrassingly effusive praise is: the album is great and you should buy it in our shop (or from HMV, Picadilly, Norman Records, Bleep or iTunes).

Don’t forget you can see Robin and his new band play live in London (10 August), Oxford (14 August) or Bristol (18 August and album launch on 7 September).

Allender album out and forthcoming gigs

The Bird and the Word will be released on Monday 9 July. Order before then from the shop for the reduced price of £6 (usually £8). Amelia’s Magazine has the first review.

Robin has lots of gigs coming up: Ashton Court in Bristol on Saturday 14 July, and then London (Friday 10 August), Oxford (Tuesday 14 August) and Bristol (Saturday 18 August). See the live page for details.

Finally, the album launch, which has been delayed by Robin’s Gravenhurst commitments (Glastonbury last month and Paris with Animal Collective this month) will be at the Folk House in Bristol on Friday 7 September.

Allender update

Robin Allender’s debut album The Bird and the Word is available to pre-order now at the reduced price of £6.

Sam Wilkins has produced a beautiful video to go with the song “Green Wound”.

Robin is also a member of Gravenhurst, and he will be appearing with them at Glastonbury Festival in June and supporting Animal Collective in France in July.

The Bird and the Word

The Bird and the Word

Robin Allender’s debut album The Bird and the Word finally has a release date: 9th July 2007. Thanks to the BBC, you’ll have a chance to hear an awful lot of whole album in the next week.

Firstly, Jon Richardson on 6 Music (currently sitting in for Russell Howard) will be playing “The Green Wound” at 10am on Sunday 22nd May. You’ll be able to listen to the show again for a week after it is broadcast.

Secondly, Fine Tuned on BBC Bristol spoke to Allender, and played clips from “Winter” and “The Bower” on 14th April. You can listen again on the BBC website right now.

Finally, you can have a look at the artwork, read the lyrics and download MP3s of “The School Field” and “Black Wave Part One” on this website.

Robin Allender joins Gravenhurst!

Robin Allender has joined Gravenhurst (Warp Records). Allender will be playing bass guitar. Azalea City Penis Club’s Dave Collingwood, is already a member of the Bristol three-piece. Gravenhurst are touring all over the place this year, so keep an eye out for them.

If you can read French, then you may find Le Cargo’s review of their first gig with Allender interesting.

A near-final mix of Allender’s “A Case Of Leaves” also appears on Le Cargo’s Escale #2 free download compilation, along with two Dave Collingwood compositions. “A Case of Leaves” will appear on The Bird and the Word, the forthcoming debut album from Allender, whose release date we expect to announce shortly.
